People Are Still Talking about Adam Lambert’s AMA Performance

January 10th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Adam Lambert, Shakira

Remember back in December when Adam Lambert performed at the AMA’s and disgusted the crowd, both live and television audience, with his performance? Well it seems that people, both lovers and haters, are still talking about it. When I heard that the FCC had released a handful of the 5000 complaints they received over the Lambert performance, I thought I would totally agree with most of them. And some of them I do. But I’m a hater and even I have to say, some of them go just a little too far.

No, Adam Lambert shouldn’t be raked over the coals because he’s gay. But he should be heavily reprimanded for any sex show that was shoved in our faces. I am an adult and my children were not up to watch it. But I was still offended. It was for pure shock value and the fact that we’re still talking about it only goes to show that he’s gotten exactly what he wants out of it. But still, name calling is never appropriate and Adam is free to be who he chooses. But men with men, women with women, or men with women, I don’t want to be conned into watching it. These are some of the comments the FCC released, from the Smoking Gun,

“JANUARY 7–After “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert kissed a male bandmate/simulated oral sex with another guy on ABC’s “American Music Awards” broadcast, the Federal Communications Commission received more than 5000 complaints about the primetime homoeroticism. On the following pages you’ll find a sampling of the letters sent to the FCC by Americans who were outraged by Lambert’s raunchy November 22 performance of his song “For Your Entertainment.” The correspondence was released after TSG filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the FCC. Many correspondents believed that Lambert, 26, ruined an evening they had been sharing with their children (most of whom who love Taylor Swift). A viewer from Rainbow City, Alabama thought that Lambert, who is gay, was “shoving his homosexuality down our throats.” An Ohio resident wrote of being glad their 94-year-old grandmother had gone to bed before Lambert’s “disgusting” display. However, the viewer noted, the elderly relative did have to endure a Shakira performance during which the gyrating singer was seen “pushing her twat in my face.” Another writer wondered whether a kiss shared by two “fudge packers” fell below broadcast standards. Along with the barrage of complaints, a handful of correspondents wrote to support Lambert or goof on the anger prompted by his performance. Lambert was a “dangerous gay male” who should have been “denied…his rights as a human being,” one viewer wrote. “All of the impressionable children that were watching this at 11pm on a school night with their parents permission may be scarred forever because of Mr. Lambert’s disregard for family values.”

Like I said, I think that Adam Lambert as a homosexual has all the rights that I do as a heterosexual, or that he should anyway. I also know that I would never flaunt any sexual performance like that in front of anybody. And while I agree that children shouldn’t be up at 11pm on a school night, I have to go back to the fact that I think it’s perfectly okay if I am. And that I was the one who was offended, strictly because I found it disturbing.

But I don’t think personally attacking Adam Lambert’s personal choices is the way to go either. He’s free to love who he loves, and I wish him the best in it. And I’m also glad that one person who wrote in said that their grandmother was offended by Shakira’s performance. One defense that Lambert used after the whole scandal exploded was that we don’t pay nearly enough attention to all the celebrities that are starting to get way too lewd on stage. On that point anyways, he’s right. We don’t, instead we pick and choose that which we find offensive. But what do I know? I write this yet Eminem is my all time favorite artist. Talk about picking and choosing.

Is Lambert Backlash Necessary? Or Overkill?

December 3rd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Adam Lambert

I have no doubt that Adam Lambert was certainly hoping to make a statement with his lewd performance at the American Music Awards last Sunday. But instead of that statement being, “I’m here and you want more of me!”, it was “You’re here, and we don’t want you!” Yes, Adam Lambert has had many appearances on talk shows cancelled ever since he entertained us all with his gigantic onstage sex show. This ban of Lambert over the airwaves started with his appearance on Good Morning America, which was cancelled and has trickled down to his appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve.

Lambert has come out with a shockingly gracious statement towards the ban and has Twittered his feelings about it, and to let his fans know that he can still be seen on Jay Leno, which I personally think is too bad. I guess Jay doesn’t mind if his set suddenly busts out into an orgy. From The New York Times via Celebitchy,

“More than a week after his controversial performance at the American Music Awards, Adam Lambert says he continues to find himself an unwanted guest on ABC.

Late Wednesday night, Mr. Lambert, the singer and “American Idol” finalist, wrote on his Twitter account that his invitation to two more ABC programs had been withdrawn.

“Yes, sadly friends,” Mr. Lambert wrote, “ABC has cancelled my appearances” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and the annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” special.

Last week, ABC scratched a planned appearance by Mr. Lambert on “Good Morning America,” its morning talk show. That decision stemmed from Mr. Lambert’s performance on Nov. 22 at the American Music Awards, also broadcast on ABC, during which he simulated sex acts with his dancers, kissed a male bandmate and extended his middle finger to the camera.

In announcing its cancellation of Mr. Lambert’s booking on “Good Morning America,” ABC said it was concerned that the singer would give another “controversial” performance “so early in the morning.”

On Monday, Anne Sweeney, the co-chairwoman of Disney Media Networks and president of the Disney-ABC Television Group, said that the network was re-evaluating its approach to live shows in the wake of Mr. Lambert’s act, and would seek to ensure that artists’ performances more closely resemble their rehearsals. “We certainly don’t want to suppress artistry at any level, but we also have to be very cognizant of who our audience is,” Ms. Sweeney said in an interview with Reuters.

A spokesman for ABC’s entertainment division, which oversees “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” was not immediately available on Thursday morning.

But on his Twitter account, Mr. Lambert tried to strike a conciliatory tone. “It’ll all blow over,” he wrote. “Let’s focus on being positive!” He also said that he was still booked to appear on “The Jay Leno Show” on NBC.”

Celebitchy also quoted from his Twitter page where he also added, “Don’t blame them (the shows.) It’s the FCC heat,” which is a nice way of giving the shows and the networks an out. I don’t think that all of this banning of Adam Lambert is actually necessary. I personally am not a fan and find him repulsive in just about every way, but he’s a person just like me free to do as he chooses. I didn’t think that his performance at the AMAs was appropriate, but not because there was gay behavior involved. It was because if I want to watch people having sex of any kind, I’ll rent porn. Otherwise, leave me be. It just wasn’t right.

What Did You Think of Adam Lambert’s AMAs Performance?

November 23rd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Adam Lambert

So one of the many big scandals that came out of last night’s American Music Awards ceremony was Adam Lambert’s performance. I was expecting something from Adam that I would find completely grotesque but that’s just because it’s Adam Lambert and in general, I find him completely grotesque. But the big deal ended up being that during his performance, he made out briefly with his keyboardist, who happens to be a man. Now, when I first read that Adam Lambert ‘wasn’t apologizing for his same-sex kiss’, I actually thought “Good for him!” I mean, I hate him but everyone has rights. Then I watched the clip from the show and thought, “Oh my God! He should apologize!”

Adam Lambert reportedly makes no apologies for sharing a same-sex kiss onstage because it’s entertainment and it was a sexy song and women have been doing this for ages. And really, he’s completely right. Madonna and Britney popped into my head before I read on to see that he actually mentions them by name when talking about the double standard. I hated that kiss these two women shared at the Video Music Awards a couple of years ago. And I hated it for the same reason – it has nothing to do with music, nothing to do with the performance. It’s all about shocking just for the sake of shocking. And not in the good Eminem-kind-of-way. But again, then I saw the video and think that Adam Lambert’s performance is even grosser.

For one, it’s Adam Lambert and he just tries to be so over-the-top that it makes me ill watching him perform. But mostly, the whole entire performance was a giant sex show. Adam trounced around the stage, not showing that he had any talent other than groping various men and women while he bopped along to the music. His pitiful attempt at dancing was completely lost on me. And the kiss? It comes closer to the end and really, was the least offensive part of the performance to me. All of this while he shrieks into a microphone and tries to look all mysterious and whatnot. Give me a break. But enough of my own Adam hate. Watch the video here, thanks to YouTube and let us know what you think!

Gene Simmons Thinks Adam Lambert Ruined his Own Career

June 30th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Adam Lambert, Gene Simmons

I understand that everyone thinks that Gene Simmons is some kind of brilliant business man but, I just don’t get it. I don’t get him. Every time Gene Simmons opens his mouth, I’m only reminded of how stupid he is and how he has no idea how the world works. I know, I know. He’s far more experienced than I am and has seen and done many more things that I have. But that doesn’t mean that he’s smarter than me, even though he clearly thinks he’s the modern genius. And I’m sorry, every time, and I do mean every time I hear something come out of Simmons’ mouth, I want to scream. I want to find him to tell him just how stupid I think he really is.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, I can tell you what started it all. Gene Simmons has recently given an interview with AOL and has decided that it’s his business to tell Adam Lambert, and the world, just what he thinks of the declaration of homosexuality that Adam made in Rolling Stone Magazine. Now, let’s be clear. I’m no Adam Lambert fan either. And when he gave that interview, I thought it was the stupidest piece of news I had read in a long time. When Adam stood up and told the world that he was gay, I don’t think anyone was shocked and I certainly don’t think anyone cared. Well, except for Gene Simmons, who is convinced that by making such an announcement, Adam has single-handedly ruined his career. From Pop Crunch,

“Gene Simmons is convinced American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert “ruined” any shot he has at a career in mainstream music after publicly confirming his rumored homosexuality in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine earlier this month.

“He’s enormously talented, best talent ‘American Idol’ has had, but I think he killed his career because now the conversation is not about his talent but about his sexual preference. He’s done. You’re forcing people to deal with issues they may not be interested in,” the former Kiss star explained in an interview with AOL over the weekend.

“Life is unfair, and the masses don’t all live in L.A. They live in Wisconsin and Nebraska, and you’re on crack if you think the same rules apply there. My advice is still the same, shut the f*** up, just sing and let people say whatever they want. But I do wish him the best because he’s got all the talent in the world,” says Simmons, who performed onstage with Lambert during the season finale in May.

“If only the world was not homophobic, but it is. I would be the first one to vote for equal rights for gay women and men, and get the church and the state to stop telling everybody how to lead their lives, but do I think he’s killed his career? Oh, in an instant. I hope I’m completely wrong. I hope he becomes the next Beatles and proves me wrong.”

Okay, so there are a few things wrong with this. First, it’s going to be a little hard for Adam to become ‘the next Beatles’ when he’s a solo artist and the Beatles were made up of four people. I also don’t think Adam telling the world that he was gay will have any effect on his career. I think Adam won’t make it because he’s too eccentric, he’s too weird, and in my humble opinion, he’s just not that talented. But it will have happened this way whether Adam told the world what they already knew or not. Gene Simmons is so stupid.

Is Adam Lambert Gay? Do You Care?

May 31st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Adam Lambert, Kara DioGuardi, Kris Allen

Throughout the entire season of American Idol this year, the debate went whether or not the one of the best contestants, Adam Lambert was gay. Because it seemed so obvious to me that he was in fact gay, I thought the entire thing was something contrived by him and ‘his people’ to make him a household name and get people talking about him. But the fact that the debate still seems to continue, even more so in fact than when he was on the show, it leaves me wondering - why do people care so much whether Adam Lambert is gay?

Are we seriously still talking about people’s sexuality so much so to the point that it’s making headline news? I don’t understand why, in a world that is so up in arms over Proposition 8, the fact that someone might be gay is making headlines. Isn’t that the whole point? To get to the place where it no longer matters what sexuality someone is? The place where something like that is no longer considered news? Apparently we have a long way to go. So for all of those who do still think this type of thing is news and that are wondering whether or not Adam’s gay, you’re about to get your answer from the Gods of Rock themselves - Rolling Stone Magazine. From Pop Crunch,

This season’s American Idol runner-up, glam rocker Adam Lambert, will finally put all the speculation over his sexuality to rest when he publicly “comes out” as gay in the next issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, The NY Post is reporting.”

But it seems as though someone has already jumped the gun on telling whether or not Adam is gay and that was the new judge Kara DioGuardi. Keep in mind that although this article states that she’ll be on The View next Friday, I just saw this article now and so she appeared on the show this past Friday. From Daily Blabber, “Kara DioGuardi basically told the ladies on The View that Adam Lambert is gay.

“I don’t think that Adam was ever in [the closet],” she says in a chat set to air on The View Friday. “I think he was always openly out.”

But does she think Adam’s flamboyant ways hurt him in the end?

“I hope not,” Kara said “Because we should be judging on talent and viability in the music industry, and they both had that.”

Honestly, she’s right, whether or not she told Adam’s news or not. They should be judged on those things and neither of them has anything to do with sex. I also think that according to those two things, the proper person won. Adam was unique and he was also a good singer. Although I hated him, I can’t deny those two things. But I think he was just too unique and too intense for the mainstream music industry, which is what American Idol products appeal to. The American public voted (regardless of the other current controversy) and I think they chose wisely. Adam will be fine with his own career, he’s already in talks with Queen about becoming their new lead singer.

I think it’s as obvious that Adam is gay as it is that Kris Allen is straight and I think neither fact should have anything to do with anything.
